About Watership Down Crafts
Hi, I’m Debbie, the maker and tutorial writer behind Watership Down Crafts, a small UK sewing business based in Kingsclere, Hampshire, close to the hills of Watership Down.
Today, the business is centred around downloadable sewing project tutorials and plans designed to help sewists create practical, useful things with confidence. I also make a small selection of finished products based on the tutorials, both as examples of what can be created and for customers who would prefer to buy the finished item.
Since launching my digital tutorials in September 2025, more than 615 tutorials have been sold to customers across 31 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and Germany.
Designed, sewn and tested by me
Every tutorial is designed, written, sewn and tested by me in my home sewing room.
The guides include detailed instructions, practical tips and plenty of photographs to help you complete each project from start to finish. I aim to make the process easy to follow, especially for beginners, without complicated explanations or unexplained sewing jargon.
Many of the projects are designed to build confidence one skill at a time. You do not need years of sewing experience or a cupboard full of specialist equipment. Customers regularly describe the tutorials as clear, concise and easy to follow, with some using them to make quick handmade gifts or to tackle techniques such as sewing zips for the first time.
From finished makes to downloadable projects
Watership Down Crafts officially launched in June 2023, originally focusing on finished fabric accessories.
In September 2025, I began creating downloadable sewing tutorials so that more people could make the projects themselves. That became the main direction of the business, and Watership Down Crafts is now focused on helping sewists build practical skills through straightforward projects they can feel proud to complete.
I still finished items based on the tutorials for customers in the UK. These also act as real-life examples of the projects, showing how the finished design can look and function before you decide to make your own.
Practical sewing with less waste
I have always enjoyed finding useful ways to work with fabric remnants, leftover materials and rescued textiles.
Many Watership Down Crafts projects are suitable for smaller pieces of fabric, helping you turn materials you already have into something practical rather than leaving them forgotten in a drawer.
The tutorials are designed to help you develop useful sewing skills while making items you will genuinely use, including pouches, wallets, sewing organisers, small accessories and bags.
Personal support from the tutorial maker
Learning to sew does not always go perfectly the first time. Threads tangle, seams wander and sewing machines occasionally seem to develop minds of their own.
When you purchase one of my tutorials, you are not left to work everything out alone. If you get stuck we have a sewing project group on Facebook where you can post your questions and proudly display your finished projects. You can find me there daily.
Inspired in Hampshire, developed at the sewing table
Many of my ideas begin during walks through the Hampshire countryside, usually with my dog Ted somewhere nearby.
Back in my sewing room, each idea is developed, tested, adjusted, unpicked when necessary and sewn again before it becomes one of the detailed tutorials available in the shop.
That process is at the heart of Watership Down Crafts: creating practical sewing projects, testing them properly, and turning them into clear digital guides that other makers can enjoy.
