Handmade in Hampshire: The Watership Down Crafts' Story

Most people associate Watership Down with the famous book and animated film. But for me, it's more than just a story—it's home. As a lifelong resident of Kingsclere, situated in the heart of Watership Down, I have been fortunate to be surrounded by its beauty throughout my life.

This connection led me to establish Watership Down Crafts, my small sewing business that draws inspiration from the rustic charm of the area.

In this blog post, we will delve into the factual details of Watership Down, Kingsclere, and Richard Adams' story, as well as explore the collection of items I have specially dedicated to fans of Watership Down, such as our Watership Down Rabbit Cushion.

Watership Down is a prominent hill located in Hampshire, England. Rising 1,047 feet (319 meters) above sea level, it is part of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Richard Adams' Story, Watership Down

Richard Adams' Watership Down is a classic work of literature that tells the tale of a group of rabbits seeking a new home.

Published in 1972, the novel explores themes of survival, leadership, friendship, and the enduring power of storytelling. Adams' meticulous attention to detail and his ability to animate the rabbit characters, each with their distinct personalities and strengths, captivated readers worldwide.

The book's success led to the adaptation of Watership Down into an animated film in 1978, further popularising the story and solidifying its place in literary history.
