    Step-by-Step Instructions

    • 1. Cut Your Jeans
    • Lay the jeans flat and cut off the legs at the crotch to create two large pieces of fabric.
    • Decide the desired size of your tote bag and cut the fabric accordingly. For example, cut two rectangles approximately 15” x 18” for a medium-sized bag.

        2. Prepare the Straps

        • Use the leftover jean legs to create straps. Cut two strips, each about 24 inches long and 2 inches wide.
        • Fold each strip in half lengthways, with the wrong sides facing out. Sew along the open edge, then turn them right-side out.

            3. Assemble the Bag

            • Place the two rectangles of fabric with the right sides facing each other.
            • Sew along the sides and bottom edges, leaving the top open. Use a sturdy stitch to ensure durability.

                4. Create a Flat Base

                • To give your bag a flat base, pinch each bottom corner of the bag and sew a triangle about 2 inches from the point. Trim the excess fabric.

                5. Attach the Straps

                • Turn the bag right-side out.
                • Pin the straps to the top edges of the bag, ensuring they are evenly spaced. Sew them securely to the bag’s interior or exterior, depending on your preference.

                    6. Optional: Add Lining or Embellishments

                    • For a polished look, add a fabric lining by sewing a separate fabric layer to the inside of the bag.
                    • Personalise your tote with embroidery, fabric paint, or iron-on patches.

                        Tips and Tricks

                        • Use heavy-duty needles and thread for sewing denim to prevent breakage.
                        • To reinforce your bag, sew an additional line of stitching along all seams.
                        • Don’t discard scraps! Use them for pockets or other small projects.

Congratulations—you’ve just turned old jeans into a chic, functional tote bag! Not only have you created something useful, but you’ve also contributed to reducing waste.
